Rebel Literary
& Arts Publication

Rebel '23 and '24 are literary arts publications that I had the pleasure of designing and directing. The experience for each was and unique; while I directed Rebel '23 and collaborated with Jamie Antinore on its design, I took full responsibility for the creation of Rebel '24. Both publications featured artwork carefully selected to reflect their respective themes.

Directed & Designed by Nia Cruz

Rebel 2023 This arts and literature publication, produced by Pirate Media 1, was a project I independently directed and designed. Through this experience, I refined my skills in creating mood boards and curating artwork to fit a cohesive editorial vision. I chose the theme divine femininity to reflect the powerful, all-female body of submissions we received that year, each piece exploring strength in its many forms. To capture the richness of the theme, I selected a color palette of black, gold, and green, complemented by paper textures that evoke the timeless, sacred feel of an old manuscript, while also symbolizing divinity and resilience.

Rebel '24

Directed by Nia Cruz

Rebel '24 was a collaborative effort directed by myself alongside Editor in Chief, and brought to life by the talented creative staff at Pirate Media . Our primary goal was to craft an magazine that truly engages readers, employing a unique prism-like style. This design begins with a vibrant array of bright colors that draw the eye, transitioning into a sophisticated fade to black and white the back of the publication. For the body text, we chose the modern sleek font Avenir Next, while the striking headline features the distinctive typeface No Blaze Face, adding an extra layer of visual appeal to the overall design.
